Mitch Bruzzese has established himself as a versatile, successful and sought after session drummer and educator. Having accompanied many artists, been a member of multiple bands and a pit musician for a large number of stage productions, Mitch has gained the reputation of one of Australia’s most prominent and reliable drummers.

Mitch began his journey as a musician at the age of eight, studying drumming and music theory with renowned Australian drummer Mitch Farmer. As a teenager Mitch also attended distinguished jazz drummer John Morrison’s summer camps. It was here that he began to understand the advanced stylistic challenges and expressive techniques that came with learning about as many genres of music as possible.

After leaving high school, Mitch was a full time member of bands Regicide and Destonia, gigging on a regular basis and touring to other cities. These bands also gave him his first opportunities of playing in a studio environment to record demos and albums.

Beginning in 2009, Mitch spent three years as Australian singer Cassie Davis‘ live drummer, allowing him the opportunity to perform on national and international television broadcasts as well as in front of full stadiums at events such as high profile football matches. Cassie’s performance on the “Hey Hey It’s Saturday” reunion show in September 2009 was broadcast to an estimated 3.2 million people – the largest live audience that Mitch has performed for so far. He also appears in Cassie’s video clips for her singles “No More” and “Don’t Wanna Dance”.

In 2010 Mitch was offered a partial scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. After careful consideration, he reluctantly decided to decline the offer to focus on his growing career in Sydney. Instead, Mitch spent a summer in New York City attending a four-week intensive course at The Collective School of Music in 2012.

Over the years Mitch has also received instruction from various acclaimed drummers including Gordon Rytmeister, Dave Goodman,  Jason Gianni, Dave Elitch, Peter Retzlaff, Maciek Schejbal, Vince Cherico, Mark Flynn, Kim Plainfield, Fred Klatz, Adriano Santos and Pat Petrillo.

From 2013-2014 Mitch was Mary & the Banks‘ full time drummer and musical director. This opportunity allowed Mitch to incorporate his passion for music technology and experience into their live shows by means of running sequencers and samplers to enhance their sound.

Mitch is an extremely proficient sight reader and as such has played for over sixty musical theatre productions to date.

Currently, Mitch is a full-time musician performing regularly with multiple bands (such as The Littlest Man Band [USA], Furnace and the Fundamentals, Critical Hit [USA], The Limited Edition Band, The EP All-Stars, SMA Productions and Party Latte). The rest of his time is divided between performing, recording and touring with artists, teaching students privately, as well as composing, arranging and producing music.

Mitch also hosts two weekly live shows online on streaming platform Twitch: drumming and reading stories to an expanding international audience.
